Florida State heads into its first game under an interim coach without a dozen players. Running back Quintrevion "Tre" Wisner is also in doubt for Saturday's trip to Boston College. The ACC's first availability report for the game came out Wednesday night, and Florida State Seminoles On SI counted 20 players ruled out between the two teams: 12 for the Seminoles and eight for the Eagles.

The biggest question for Florida State is in the backfield. Wisner, listed as questionable, got banged up in last week's loss to Clemson, RotoWire reported. Ousmane Kromah is already out for the season, and Samuel Singleton Jr. is on the out list too. Tomahawk Nation reported that Singleton is also done for the year. If Wisner can't go, the carries fall to Amari Thomas, Zay Parks and Gavin Markey.

The defensive front is thin as well. Defensive linemen Kevin Wynn and Deante McCray are out, and McCray was hurt against Clemson. Cornerback Quindarrius Jones will miss a second straight game. Linebackers Blake Nichelson and Noah LaVallee and defensive back Jamari Howard are also out. Wide receiver Duce Robinson, safety Karson Hobbs and linebackers Izayia Williams and Daylen Green round out the season-ending injuries. Defensive lineman Cam Brooks, defensive back K.J. Kirkland and kicker Conor McAneney are questionable. Linebacker Caleb LaVallee and defensive back Ja'Bril Rawls are probable.

Boston College has its own backfield problems. Running backs Evan Dickens and Sedric Addison are both out, along with wide receiver Reed Swanson, offensive linemen Trevon Humphrey and Michael Crounse, defensive lineman Onye Nwosisi, linebacker Justin Medlock and defensive back Isaiah Farris. Tight end Danny Edgehille is questionable. The teams will put out updated reports Thursday and Friday, and a final one two hours before kickoff.

This will be the first road game since Florida State fired Mike Norvell on Sunday. As On3 reported, Rick Stockstill takes over for the last four games. He is a former Seminoles quarterback who coached Middle Tennessee for 18 seasons before joining Florida State's staff in 2024. On SI noted that the last time Florida State played in Chestnut Hill under an interim coach, it won 38-31.

What it means for Saturday

Florida State (3-5) has lost three in a row: 44-20 at Louisville, 43-35 at No. 3 Miami and 36-24 to Clemson. It is 0-3 on the road. The Seminoles still score, at about 30.6 points per game, but they give up 28.9, and that was with a healthier defensive line than the one they will bring north. The two wins that stand out, 38-7 over Virginia and 34-7 over Central Arkansas, both came at home.

Boston College (4-4) comes in after its worst result of the year, a 47-2 loss at Duke. That ended a two-game run in which the Eagles scored 49 at Georgia Tech and beat Pittsburgh 27-21. They are 3-1 at home, with the only loss a 21-14 game against Virginia Tech. Their offense averages about 21.6 points a game and the defense allows 26.5. Both teams lost close games to SMU, Florida State by three and Boston College by nine.

With both teams missing running backs, the game could come down to which defense holds up on the line of scrimmage. For Florida State, that is the position group it can least afford to lose more players at. Kickoff is Saturday on ACC Network.
