Clemson's Halloween trip to Tallahassee will be a night game. The ACC announced Monday that the Tigers' game at Florida State on Saturday, Oct. 31, will kick off at 7 p.m. at Doak Campbell Stadium and air on ACC Network, the Aiken Standard reported.

The Seminoles get a bye this week, which gives them two weeks to prepare and to recover from a 43-35 double-overtime loss at Miami, now ranked No. 1. That defeat dropped Florida State to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the ACC, as the Tallahassee Democrat noted. Clemson is 4-2 and 2-1 in league play after a 37-0 home win over Charleston Southern. It has won four of its last five.

This series has tilted toward Clemson for a decade. Florida State still leads the all-time series 21-17, but according to 247Sports, the Tigers have won nine of the last 10 meetings, including the last two. Clemson won 29-13 on its last visit to Tallahassee in 2024 and beat the Seminoles 24-10 at home last season. Dabo Swinney is 4-1 against Mike Norvell. The Democrat pointed out that Florida State has the home edge historically, going 12-7 against Clemson at Doak Campbell.

The Halloween game is one of eight ACC games on the Oct. 31 schedule. It goes head to head with Miami at North Carolina, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

What it means for Saturday

Clemson has one more game before the trip south. Virginia Tech, now coached by former Penn State coach James Franklin, visits Death Valley on Saturday at 7 p.m. on ESPN (game page). Hokies quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer was with Penn State when it beat Clemson in last season's Pinstripe Bowl. Swinney told the Aiken Standard the game is the Tigers' chance to finish "what we call the primetime phase of our journey."

The season numbers show a team that has beaten the teams it was expected to beat and lost badly to the elite ones. Clemson has outscored opponents 134-129 overall. Its two losses, 51-10 at LSU and 41-13 at home to Miami, came by a combined 92-23. In its four wins it has given up 37 points total. Florida State has scored more, 221 points in seven games, but has also allowed 195. Three of its four losses came against ranked teams, and the other was a 44-20 defeat at Louisville.

Clemson is a narrow favorite against Virginia Tech. On Novig, one of 11 venues on this site's board, the Tigers are -133 on the moneyline and Virginia Tech is +130. The spread on Novig is Clemson -2.5 at -108, with the Hokies at +102. The best price anywhere for Virginia Tech's side comes with an extra point: Hard Rock Bet has the Hokies at +3.5, priced at -125. That gap matters in a game set this close to a field goal. The total is 49.5. The under is -113 on Novig and -110 at BetMGM, the best price on the board. Sportsbook hold ranges from 3.4% to 6.8% on the moneyline, so prices for the same outcome vary noticeably from venue to venue.

Florida State won't play until Clemson arrives, so whatever happens in Death Valley on Saturday sets the stakes for Halloween night.
