Boston College returns to Alumni Stadium on Saturday for a noon ET kickoff against Pittsburgh, with the game airing on ESPN2 and streaming on the ESPN app, Fubo and DirecTV, NESN reported. The Eagles have had two weeks to recover from a rain-soaked 25-16 loss at SMU on Oct. 3. Mason McKenzie threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns in that game and added 74 rushing yards on 21 carries.

Pitt comes north after its first loss of the season, a 21-17 home defeat to North Carolina. Holden Geriner made his first college start in that game and threw for 219 yards and two interceptions. He will start again in Chestnut Hill, but Pat Narduzzi has made it clear he could make a change during the game. "We will have a shorter rope this week," the Pitt coach told 93.7 The Fan. He added that Geriner and freshman Corey Dailey had split practice reps roughly evenly. Geriner completed 15 of 21 passes for 99 yards in the first half against the Tar Heels, and Pitt led 10-7 at the break. Both of his interceptions came after halftime. Narduzzi said he wants a full 60 minutes from whoever plays.

That uncertainty is what makes this matchup worth watching. Pitt's offense has been one of the most productive in the league. The ACC's weekly preview lists the Panthers at 459.8 total yards per game, with 17 touchdown passes caught by 11 different players. Boston College is still looking for its first ACC win.

What it means for Saturday

The season numbers favor the visitors. Pitt is 5-1 and has outscored opponents by about 35 points to 15 per game. Its lone loss came by four points, and its last road game was a 35-33 win at Virginia Tech. Boston College is 2-3, averages 19 points and allows a little more than 23. The Eagles have lost three of their last four, including a 21-14 home loss to that same Virginia Tech team. Their wins came against Rutgers and Maine.

Pitt is favored on the board for this game across 11 venues. On Novig, one of the venues tracked, Pitt is -223 on the moneyline and Boston College is +217. The spread there is Pitt -6.5 at -104, with Boston College +6.5 at even money. The best Pitt spread price anywhere is a point shorter: -5.5 at -120 on Hard Rock Bet. So the market across venues sits between five and a half and six and a half points. Novig's total is 42.5, with the over at -108 and the under at +104. FanDuel offers 41.5 at -114 on the over, and Pinnacle has 43 at -111 on the under. That puts the totals a point and a half apart from one venue to the next. Sportsbook hold on the game runs from about 3.4% to 6.8%. Full prices are on the game page.

A total in the low 40s makes sense for a Boston College offense that has not scored more than 28 points all season. It also fits a Pitt attack whose most recent output came with a first-time starter under center. If Narduzzi moves to Dailey at some point, the Panthers' offense could look very different in the second half from the one that started the game.
