Syracuse is an underdog at home against Clemson on Saturday. Clemson is favored by 2.5 points, and on Novig, one of the 12 venues on our board, the Tigers are -130 on the moneyline and Syracuse is +125. That price puts the Orange's chances a bit under 45 percent. The total is 49.5. At 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the ACC, Syracuse is playing for bowl eligibility. The playoff and the conference title are out of reach.

Schedule, results and the season-long view are on our Syracuse team page. This piece covers what changed this week and what the numbers say before kickoff.

The win that changed the conversation

Syracuse beat No. 19 SMU 30-27 on Oct. 31 at the JMA Wireless Dome. According to the AP recap carried by SMU Athletics, Steve Angeli threw the winning 2-yard touchdown to little-used tight end Noah Meyers with 17 seconds left. The Daily Orange reported that Syracuse led 20-10 at halftime and then gave up 17 straight points before the final drive. It was the program's first win over a ranked team since 2024. OutKick noted that the loss badly hurt SMU's own playoff and ACC title hopes.

That was Syracuse's second one-score league win in a row, after a 31-30 win at North Carolina. Close games have defined this season. Three of the four losses (Cal 21-18, Virginia 28-25 and Louisville 34-26) came by a single possession.

Where the Orange sit in the ACC race

ESPN's box score has SMU at 4-2 in conference play after the loss. The league leader is Miami, which is 8-0 and 6-0 in the ACC and ranked No. 1 in both polls, per its season page. Syracuse already has four conference losses, so it has no realistic way into the ACC Championship Game. ACC title and playoff prices for the Orange should be read as long shots. Bowl eligibility is the real target.

The math to six wins

Teams need six wins to qualify for a bowl, so Syracuse needs two more over the final month. Saturday's game is the biggest step. A win over Clemson would put the Orange at 5-4 with some room to spare. A loss means they would have to win two of the remaining games just to get to six.

This matters for the season win total too. Anyone tracking a preseason number around six can see that the line now rests on a few late-season games.

Reading Saturday's numbers

Kickoff is at noon ET on ESPN2, according to Syracuse Athletics. Here is how the Novig prices break down:

  • Moneyline: Clemson -130 ($76.92 profit per $100), Syracuse +125 ($125 per $100)
  • Spread: Clemson -2.5 at -106, Syracuse +2.5 at +102
  • Total: 49.5, with the over at -104 and the under at +102. The best under elsewhere is BetRivers at 50.5 (-122).

Sportsbook hold on this game runs from about 3 to 7 percent depending on the market and the venue. A 2.5-point spread on a road favorite means the market sees this as close to even once home field is factored in. That matches how Syracuse's season has gone. Live prices are on our Clemson at Syracuse odds page.
