Louisville fell behind by two touchdowns on Friday night, then ran over Florida State for the rest of the evening. The Cardinals finished with 397 rushing yards. Isaac Brown had 235 of them on 17 carries, including touchdown runs of 97 and 68 yards. Louisville scored 44 of the game's final 50 points at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Both teams leave at 3-3.

How it was won

Florida State controlled the first quarter. Ashton Daniels ran for a 7-yard score at 8:34. At 2:08 he found Micahi Danzy for a 25-yard touchdown, and the Seminoles led 14-0.

One play changed the game. At 9:16 of the second quarter, Brown broke a 97-yard touchdown run. Marquise Davis tied it at 3:21 with a 3-yard run, and the teams went to halftime at 14-14.

Louisville took over in the third quarter. Lincoln Kienholz scored on a 3-yard run at 12:45 and a 1-yard run at 8:06 for a 28-14 lead. Braxton Jennings opened the fourth quarter with a 44-yard touchdown run at 12:57.

Florida State answered once. Daniels hit Danzy from 2 yards at 8:30, but the two-point pass failed, leaving the score 35-20. Fifty-three seconds later, Brown went 68 yards for his second touchdown. The extra point was blocked. Carson Hilbert added a 39-yard field goal at 2:59 for the final margin.

The box score shows a Florida State team that moved the ball but could not keep pace with Louisville's big plays. The Seminoles had more first downs (22 to 21) and held the ball longer (31:18 to 28:42). They still gave up 537 total yards to 362. Daniels completed 21 of 37 passes for 209 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, which was the game's only turnover. He also ran 13 times for 45 yards. Ousmane Kromah carried 19 times for 88 yards and caught four passes for 43. Danzy caught four for 50 yards and both touchdowns. Florida State converted 7 of 17 third downs.

Kienholz needed only 15 throws. He completed 11 for 140 yards and scored twice on the ground. Lawayne McCoy caught three passes for 78 yards, and TreyShun Hurry caught five for 56. Davis added 56 yards on nine carries. Louisville converted 4 of 9 third downs and did not turn the ball over.

Against the number

Louisville closed as a 4-point favorite and won by 24, so the Cardinals covered by 20. On the moneyline, Louisville closed at -192 and Florida State at +160.

The total closed at 60.5, and 64 points went over it. The first half produced 28 points, which left the over in doubt until the fourth quarter. Brown's 68-yard run at 7:37 made the score 41-20, and that took the total past the number. The blocked extra point did not matter for the total. Hilbert's late field goal only added to the margin.

What's next

Florida State has lost three of its six games, and the next test is the hardest one yet. The Seminoles play at No. 3 Miami on Saturday, October 17 (ESPN / Disney+). Their earlier losses came against No. 10 Alabama (50-36) and No. 19 SMU (27-24).

Louisville snapped a two-game losing streak. Both of those losses were by three points, to Wake Forest and NC State. The Cardinals travel to Syracuse on Saturday, October 17 (ACC Network).
