Virginia goes into Friday night's home game against Duke with an offense that has stopped producing. The Cavaliers have gained fewer than 300 yards in three straight games, which had not happened since 2009, according to Xander Tilock of Virginia Cavaliers On SI. Tilock picks out three players who need big nights: quarterback Beau Pribula, linebacker Kam Robinson and wide receiver Jacquon Gibson.

Pribula is the main one. Coach Tony Elliott has said the quarterback is doing what the staff asks of him. Tilock notes that if that is true, the problem is the staff, and no changes have been made. Pribula has also made his own mistakes, taking sacks when he could have thrown the ball away and missing some throws. Tilock thinks one well-placed deep ball to Da'Shawn Martin may have been the difference in the win over Syracuse.

The receiving corps is thin. Rico Flores Jr. has been ruled out with a knee injury, and RotoWire, citing 247Sports, reports he could miss several weeks. Kam Courtney, who leads the team with 18 catches, is questionable. That should put Gibson back in the starting lineup. He has eight catches for 103 yards this season, and both of his touchdowns came against Norfolk State.

On defense, Robinson is still looking for his first big game since coming back from a major injury and taking over the play calls at linebacker. His angles in run support will matter against Duke's Nate Sheppard, who leads the ACC with 820 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Steve DeShazo, also of Virginia Cavaliers On SI, reports that 20 Cavaliers are listed as out. That includes free safety Ethan Minter, and strong safety Brandyn Hillman is questionable with an ankle injury. Cornerback Omillio Agard was already lost for the season.

What it means for Friday

Both teams are slumping. Virginia (4-3) has lost two of its last three games: 38-7 at Florida State, a 28-25 win over Syracuse and a 23-13 loss at SMU. The Cavaliers scored 48 points across those three games. Duke (4-2, 1-2 ACC) opened 4-0 but has dropped its last two by a combined seven points, 28-25 at Georgia Tech and 24-20 to North Carolina. The Blue Devils are dealing with injuries too. DeShazo reports that center Matt Craycraft, nose tackle David Anderson and safety Andrew Pelliccotta are out. Duke's defense still ranks second in the ACC at 292.7 yards allowed per game, which is a tough matchup for an offense that hasn't reached 300 yards in three weeks.
