Miami has one new name on its first availability report for Saturday's game against Pittsburgh. Freshman wide receiver Milan Parris is listed as doubtful, Miami Hurricanes On SI reported. This is the first time he has appeared on the report this season. Parris has three catches for 19 yards, so his absence mostly costs the top-ranked Hurricanes depth at receiver and on special teams. It shouldn't change how they use their front-line pass catchers.

The rest of Miami's out list is unchanged: receiver Joshua Moore, running back CharMar Brown, cornerbacks Ja'Boree Antoine and OJ Frederique Jr., offensive lineman Max Buchanan and tight end Luka Gilbert. The cornerback injuries are the ones to watch. Mario Cristobal has said both could return later in the season, and he described Antoine as progressing but expected him back closer to the end of the year. Until then, Miami's secondary remains its thinnest unit.

Pitt's report is longer. The report, also carried by Yahoo Sports, lists eight Panthers as out. The biggest name is quarterback Mason Heintschel, who tore his ACL in the Oct. 2 win at Virginia Tech. Before the injury, Heintschel had thrown for 1,304 yards and 14 touchdowns with one interception in five games, USA TODAY Sports reported, and Holden Geriner replaced him in that game. Tight ends Elijah Lagg and Max Hunt, defensive backs Allen Bryant and Isaac Patterson, defensive linemen Ben Kauffman and Trevor Sommers, and receiver Rodney Dunbar are also out. Running back Ja'Kyrian Turner and defensive backs Rashan Murray and Josh Guerrier are questionable. That leaves Pitt short in a secondary that will face Miami's passing game.

What it means for Saturday

The season numbers explain the gap. Miami is 6-0, averaging 48.5 points and allowing 14.0. Its last two games were its closest: a 41-13 win at Clemson and a 43-35 double-overtime win over Florida State. Pitt opened 5-0, then scored 17 and 21 points in back-to-back losses to North Carolina and Boston College in the two games since Heintschel's injury. Over the full season the Panthers average 32.9 points and allow 16.4.

Cristobal still described Pitt as a "really good football team," according to Miami Hurricanes On SI. He pointed to the Panthers' ability to create negative plays and pressure the quarterback, and to their interception numbers.
