Georgia Tech football odds: Yellow Jackets at 2-7 are out of ACC title, playoff and bowl contention

Georgia Tech's championship and playoff odds have no number left to post, because the Yellow Jackets are mathematically out. Saturday's 44-17 home loss to Louisville dropped Georgia Tech to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in the ACC. With three games left, the most the Jackets can finish with is five wins. That rules out bowl eligibility, an ACC Championship Game spot and a College Football Playoff berth. Any season win total set before the season at six or higher has already gone under.

Our Georgia Tech team page is the full guide to the Yellow Jackets. This story covers what changed this week and what comes next.

What happened against Louisville

According to the Associated Press report carried by Atlanta News First, Tre Richardson had 101 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns as Louisville won at Bobby Dodd Stadium. The Cardinals moved to 6-3 and 5-2 in the ACC with their fourth straight win. The AP said the loss guarantees Georgia Tech its first losing record since 2022.

The bigger story was at quarterback. Head coach Brent Key alternated quarterbacks in the first half to get the offense going. Regular starter Alberto Mendoza started the game, and Key then switched every drive with backup Grady Adamson. Each threw a touchdown pass, but the AP said both struggled for most of the night. The Jackets have now scored 17 or fewer points in back-to-back weeks.

How the season got here

Georgia Tech has lost three straight and five of its last six. The season opened with a one-point loss to Colorado, 14-13. The Jackets then lost 45-24 to No. 18 Tennessee, beat Mercer 44-11 and lost 34-27 at Stanford. Their only ACC win came next, 28-25 over Duke. Since then they have lost 34-24 at Virginia Tech, 49-27 to Boston College, 34-11 at Pittsburgh and now 44-17 to Louisville.

The defense has been the larger problem in conference play. Georgia Tech has given up at least 34 points in each of its last four games, and an average of about 40 per game over that stretch.

What is left to play for

Next is a trip to Clemson on Saturday, November 14, on The CW. Two more games follow. With postseason play off the table, the remaining games are about the quarterback decision, player development and roster planning heading into the offseason. Key's handling of the Mendoza-Adamson rotation in Death Valley is the first thing to watch. Whether one of them takes over full time will say a lot about the 2027 plan.

Georgia Tech can still finish at 5-7, but that would take three straight wins after a three-game skid, starting on the road.

Where the prices stand

This site's board has no Georgia Tech prices posted right now. Season-long markets on the Jackets have no real price left to set. ACC title, playoff and bowl questions are settled, and the over/under on a season win total of six or more is decided. Game lines for the Clemson matchup usually go up early in the week across sportsbooks and exchanges, including Novig. We'll note which side is favored and by how much once a number is listed.

On legality: sports wagering is legal only in states that have authorized it, and usually only for adults 21 and over. Georgia has not legalized sports betting, so it is not legal there.
